Course Description

MIT 4034F/G   Special Topics in MIT: Debt and Austerity

Course Description
Rolling economic crises imperil working people while empowering the world’s elite. Governments reduce taxes on the wealthy and cut services for everyone else; rising inflation is increasing household indebtedness and individual economic insecurity. This class focuses on political-economic and ideological features of the current condition: how did we get here? Why does it seem like there is no alternative? What can be done?

Prerequisites: Registration in fourth year of an Honours Specialization module in FIMS, or permission of the instructor. Note: Enrolment is based on a ballot system which is submitted prior to course registration.

3 lecture hours, 0.5 course.
