Full-Time Faculty Positions

Asper Fellowship in Media – Faculty of Information and Media Studies, Western University

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at Western University invites applications for the Asper Fellowship in Media. The role of the fellow is to promote public discussion of a range of issues related to the nature of Canadian media. The fellow is normally in residence for one term: for the coming year, either September to December 2018 or January to April 2019. The successful applicant will receive a stipend of $20,000 which includes benefits for the term, and up to $10,000 to support research activities during the tenure of the fellowship. The amount available to support the fellow’s research will depend upon the scope of the proposed project and an approved budget, to be determined in consultation with the Dean and the FIMS Assistant Dean, Research.
During the term of the Fellowship, the Asper Fellow will teach one half-course in an area of expertise in one of the Faculty’s programs, will deliver a public lecture to the Faculty and University community, and will be engaged in a significant media-related research project that will lead to public dissemination. We anticipate that this position will appeal to journalism/media practitioners or to journalism/media scholars who would value an opportunity to engage in focused teaching and scholarly reflection relating to some aspect of media. We also anticipate that the successful applicant will be a distinguished leader in the area of journalism/media studies who will use the opportunity of the Asper Fellowship to enrich teaching and scholarship in media at Western.
The Faculty of Information and Media Studies is a vibrant, expanding, interdisciplinary Faculty. It currently offers an undergraduate program in Media, Information and Technoculture (MIT), and a related stream Media and the Public Interest (MPI) with an enrolment of approximately 1,000 students, and graduate programs in Journalism and Communication, Media Studies, Popular Music and Culture, Library and Information Science, and Health Information Science.
