MIT 3402G (Winter 2010)   Politics & Representation of Food

Course Description
As a sign system, food tells us a great deal about political, economic, social, and ecological practices. This course explores what we eat, how we eat, and why media representation is central to issues such as genetic modification, factory farming, body image, animal rights and welfare, technology and ethics, globalization, hunger in developing nations, and the practice of alternatives to the industrial food system.
