Course Description

MIT 2662F (Fall 2009)   Documentary Media and the Production of Truth

Course Description
This course explores representations of “reality” in modern media such as cinema, photography, the Internet, radio, print, performance, and the museum. We will question the notions of truth and objectivity, and examine its deployment in forms ranging from journalism, propaganda,
ethnography, evidence, science and medicine, and personal narrative. In addition to theoretical readings, students will create two documentary projects, choosing first from two media (recorded interview and transcription) and then from (or using) a variety of mediums. This course, then, is
about examining the ethics of ‘documentary’ media in both theory and practice, and as it relates to technologies of mediation.

This course is no longer active. Please contact FIMS Undergraduate Student Services, fims@uwo.ca, for more information.
