MIT 374G (Winter 2008)   The Politics and Representation of Food

Course Description
As a sign system, food tells us a great deal about political, economic, social and ecological practices.  This coures explores what we eat, how we eat, and why media representation is central to issues such as genetic modification, factory farming, body image, animal rights and welfare, technology and ethics, globalization, hunger in developing nations, and the practice of alternatives to the industrial food system.
