MIT 376G (Winter 2007)   Theories of Photography and Post Photography

Course Description
This course examines the cultural and theoretical implications of photographic technologies and practices. As theory, it explores the connection between image and identity; it considers how photography is used to promote class and national interests; it reflects on the relationship between photography and commodity culture; and it investigates theories of post-photographic practices in the digital age. As practice, students will produce ongoing creative and analytical response to the readings. No experience with a camera is required.
