Awards & Accomplishments

Nicole Dalmer (LIS PhD'18) was named the new Associate Director of the Gilbrea Centre for Studies in Aging at McMaster University.

Heidi Julien
(LIS PhD'97) was named the recipient of the 2021 Service to ALISE Award, given to an ALISE member for regular and sustained service through the holding of various offices and positions within the organization or fulfilling specific responsibilities for the organization.

Mary Grace Kosta (MLIS’12) received the James J. Talman Award at the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Archives Association of Ontario for her outstanding level of imagination and innovation in supporting new members of the archival profession, through the student practicum program at the Archives of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Kosta also received the Society of American Archivists Sister M. Claude Lane, O.P., Memorial Award, which is given out annually to an individual working in religious archives.

Jeff Perry (BA'05, MIT) received a 2021 Canadian Screen Award for Best Picture Editing, Reality/Competition for the COVID-19 special Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble.

Nafiz Shuva (LIS PhD'20) was elected to the IFLA Regional Division Committee North America. IFLA’s Regional Division Committees play a vital role in ensuring that IFLA’s work responds to the needs of the library field. They provide a space for learning and defining regional action plans and have a strong focus on defining advocacy priorities and building capacity across the region. In particular, they allow for a stronger voice for regions within IFLA, and a stronger presence of IFLA on the ground.

Mark Polger (MLIS'00) published a text titled Library Signage and Wayfinding Design: Communicating Effectively with Your Users in 2021.

Henry Adam Svec (Media Studies PhD'13) published a novel titled Life Is Like Canadian Football and Other Authentic Folk Songs in June 2021.

In Memoriam: Jen Holland
The FIMS community was saddened to learn that Jen Holland (MLIS'01) passed away on July 3, 2021, at the age of 50. Her obituary can be found online.
