Alumni Profile - Francesco Colosimo, MHIS'21

Current position: Associate Consultant, MacPhie and Company

-----

What is your current professional role about?

"I currently work at MacPhie & Company in Toronto, Ontario as an Associate Consultant. My day-to-day is very different, which is probably one of the things I like most, but a big part of my role is analyzing data, preparing materials, and assisting in the project management of strategic planning and culture transformation engagements. Internally, I am very involved in our marketing initiatives and use social media engagement strategies, regular website updates, and paid search advertising efforts to attract business leads."

How did HIS help you get where you are in your career?

"I think the MHIS program helped me in all sorts of ways! Firstly, it helped me develop data analysis skills. When I say this, I mean efficiently examining information through a critical thinking lens, that allows you to draw unique and accurate conclusions. In other words, looking at data and constantly thinking – what are the implications? This is important in my work as clients ultimately want to know the insights and conclusions that are going to help their business.

Secondly, over the course of my studies I focused on Knowledge Translation (KT). In my opinion, at the foundation of KT is the idea that it is not what you say, but how you say it – and I take this idea with me wherever I go. My job involves a lot of communication and I feel like KT concepts have helped me navigate this aspect."

What would you say to a person considering the program?

"Pursue your interests! I think the great thing about the MHIS program and the idea of health information is that it is broad. You have the opportunity to study anything from KT, to health policy, to AI in health, and much more. I would recommend coming into the program with an open mind, to figure out what interests you in the broad area of health information. Once you find that, take the opportunity to mould your learning experience the way you want – you will find that the outcome will be one that you are proud of."
