MLIS program re-accredited by the American Library Association

The Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) program in the Faculty of Information & Media Studies (FIMS) has been reaccredited by the American Library Association (ALA) for another seven years. The final stages of the review were completed in June 2018, and the MLIS program received “Continued” accreditation status, with no Notices of Concern.

FIMS would like to acknowledge the faculty, staff, and industry professionals (serving on the Consultation Committee) who put in the enormous amount of work required to successfully complete the review process.

The ALA is the body responsible for ensuring that standards for library and science education are met, and continue to be met, throughout the life of the program. Continued accreditation status is granted to an accredited program that continues to demonstrate compliance with the Standards, and lasts for seven years. Western's MLIS program has been in good standing with the ALA since 1969.
