Nadine Wathen's PreVAiL awarded new funding

Nancy Poole, Harriet MacMillan, Rona Ambrose, Nadine Wathen and Lorraine GreavesOn February 20, 2015, Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, announced that $10 million per year (through Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada) will be administered to cover a wide variety of programming designed to support victims' physical and mental well-being. Prevention methods will also be addressed.

PreVAiL will co-lead the first project to be supported through this investment, along with the British Columbia (BC) Centre of Excellence for Women's Health. The 3-year, $4.1 million project, titled "Development of Pan-Canadian Public Health Guidance on Family Violence," will develop education materials and approaches that will help health professionals better support victims of violence.

Professor Wathen is a Co-Principal Investigator of the CIHR-funded PreVAiL Research Network, which includes Western researchers Jen MacGregor (FIMS postdoc), Anita Kothari (School of Health Studies professor) and Marilyn Ford-Gilboe (Nursing professor).
