MLIS grad Catherine Steeves named University Librarian

Ms. Steeves comes back to Western from the University of Guelph where she is presently the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Associate Chief Librarian (ACL). In her role as Deputy CIO and member of the CIO Executive she plays a pivotal role in the development of the overall strategy and policy administration of the University’s information technology, information services and information resources. As the ACL she has oversight responsibilities for all library operations including Learning and Curriculum Support, Discovery & Access, Archival & Special Collections, Information Resources and Information Technology Services and shared responsibility for strategic and budgetary planning processes, personnel and financial administration.   
 
Catherine was selected to participate in the Association of Research Libraries Research Library Leadership Fellows Program as well as the Northern Exposure to Leadership Institute’s programs as a participant, facilitator and most recently as a mentor. Her professional service commitments include serving on the boards of both the Canadian Library Association and the Ontario Library Association. She is a past president of the Ontario Library Information Technology Association.  Most recently she has been actively engaged with the Ontario Council of University Libraries and sits as the Chair of the Scholars Portal Committee and as a member of the OCUL Planning and Assessment Committee.
