Thesis & Supervision

Proposal & Thesis Guidelines

Thesis Proposal

The purpose of a thesis proposal is to demonstrate 1) that you have identified a significant research problem and 2) that you have sufficient background preparation in theory and research methods to equip you to investigate the problem. As a student in the program, numerous resources are available to help you write a successful proposal and progress to the next step.

Thesis

A thesis is the end product of a student's inquiry into the questions posed in their thesis proposal. Prior to publication the thesis must prove it can stand up to scholarly criticism through the examination process. To read in-depth about producing the thesis itself, along with the examination process, visit the School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) to view their thesis guide and regulations related to timing, formating, defending and publishing your work.

Faculty Supervision

Applicants to the MHIS program are not required to declare a supervisor or contact them in order to apply for the program.

Students usually complete their first semester and refine their interests before connecting with potential supervisors. They can also decide between course-based or thesis-based program options at that time.

Below is the list of affiliated faculty members; it is recommended that you do some research to find potential matches to your area of interest, which you would include in the Statement of General Research Interest as part of your application.
