Edward Comor joined FIMS as Professor of Media Studies in 2003 and remained until his retirement in 2026. Prior to this, he earned his PhD in Political Science (specializing in comparative politics), taught International Studies in Washington, DC, and was Lecturer in Communication and Media Studies in the UK. His research has focused on the political economy of communication and culture, and he wrote or edited six books: The Global Political Economy of Communication (1994 & 1996); Communication, Commerce, and Power (1998); Consumption and the Globalization Project (2008); Media, Structures, and Power (2011); Political Economy in the Modern State (2018); and Harold Innis's Final Course (2025). While at FIMS, Comor served as the Rogers Chair in Journalism and New Information Technology and held the title of Faculty Scholar. As an instructor, on six occasions, he attained the University Students Council Teaching Award. Among Comor’s other activities, he was the Co-Founder and Inaugural Chair of the International Communication Section of the International Studies Association. He also served as a review official, assessor, or referee for the Canada Council for the Arts; the Canada Research Chairs Program; the Australian National Quality Exercise; the Institute of European Studies; and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
