Western’s Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) and Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) offer two joint degrees: a PhD in Health Information Science and a Master of Health Information Science. The PhD program is a research-intensive program designed for students who want to do independent, original research in health information science. The master's option is geared to either continued academic study, or entry into the job field.

The MHIS program offers both thesis and course-based options while the doctoral program in HIS is thesis-based only. Both provide students with fundamental knowledge in health and health care, including:

  • Information ethics and policy

Draw expertise from two faculties

Students complete their course work through graduate seminars and courses offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies; graduate courses from related programs are also available, with permission.
