Leadership in Journalism & Media

Advancing Ethical Journalism and Public Dialogue

The Master of Media in Journalism and Communication program is proud to host two leadership opportunities in journalism and media.

For decades, the Faculty of Information & Media Studies at Western University has honoured the craft of journalism and media leadership through distinguished lectures and fellowships that connect legacy, scholarship and public dialogue.

Clissold Lecture Series

The Clissold Lecture commemorates Edward Clissold (1833–1915), one of London’s most influential early editors and journalists. After 33 years at the London Advertiser, his legacy helped shape regional journalism in Canada.

Established in 1984 through a family bequest, this annual lecture brings leading voices in journalism and public affairs to Western, celebrating editorial excellence and the enduring role of a free press.

Asper Fellowship in Media

Established in 2006 through a gift from The CanWest Global Foundation, the Asper Fellowship in Media enriches journalism and media education at Western while advancing public discussion on Canadian media.

Each year, a distinguished media leader joins the university for a four-month term, contributing to teaching, research and dialogue on the evolving business and practice of media in Canada.
