Eden Hoffer is a Health Information Science PhD student in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS). Her research focusses on the criminalization of intimate partner violence victim-survivors through mandatory charging policies and the ways in which these policies serve to harm them rather than offer them protection. Broadly, Eden is interested in any policy-driven and/or gender-related concerns, including human trafficking, women's health, motherhood and "mothering", and period poverty.
In the context of intimate-partner violence, Eden's M.A. work began to focus on navigating the highly gendered tensions between protectionism, paternalism, and women's agency within Canadian legislation and Canadian criminal justice policies (with specific respect to mandatory charging policies).
