The University of Alberta Libraries (UAL), with a long tradition of technological innovation and service excellence, seeks a dynamic and engaged professional to play a key role in the planning and execution of a growing program of digital library initiatives.

Reporting to the Digital Repository Services Coordinator, and working within a highly engaged team-based environment, the Digital Initiatives Projects Librarian proposes, guides, monitors and assesses a variety of digital library projects, with a particular focus on digital repositories (ERA, ERA A+V, and Dataverse), research data management and open initiatives, e.g. open data and open educational resources. The successful candidate will participate and shape all phases of the planning and development of digital library projects in these areas, including the development of business cases and project plans, organizing and implementing workflows, coordinating project activities, communication planning and delivery, training, outreach, quality control, and assessment. The successful candidate will liaise and collaborate with Canadian and international communities of practice in order to enhance and improve repository and data services.

Qualifications include an MLS degree from an accredited library school and demonstrated experience in successful project management. In addition to an MLS, training in project management, humanities computing, data management, or other technical backgrounds may be an asset. Applicants must possess a strong service orientation, outstanding communication skills, a thorough understanding and awareness of open access, repositories and research data management, data services, and digital library development, an interest in implementing new initiatives and in evaluation of current practice, superior leadership skills, a demonstrated commitment to cooperative action and collaborative work, and a demonstrated interest in the goals of the Libraries and the profession.

This is a permanent tenure-track position classified at the Librarian 1 level with a salary range of $62,231 - $124,387 per annum, effective July 1, 2017. Librarians at the University of Alberta have academic status and participate in a generous benefits program.
