Course Description
This course introduces students to the concepts and debates surrounding the intersections of health and media/information. Special focus will be giving to the social determinants of health and these are communicated/or fail to be communicated through the media; the inter-relationship between pharmaceutical marketing and advertising at all levels and the development of unnecessary or harmful medications; Indigenous health issues and media coverage; and the ideology of personal responsibility for health and how its claims map with economic and social realities, scientific evidence on obesity and diet, and the marketing of health and beauty.
