Course Description
This course will provide students with the opportunity to examine the ways artificial intelligence and digital automation technologies are both shaping the practices, discourses, and imagined futures of human health and wellbeing, and reinforcing existing inequalities of access and quality around race, gender, and disability. Through a focus on AI’s applications in areas such as clinical practice, genetic research, and mental health diagnosis, the course will provide students with a rich understanding of AI systems’ technical affordances, social impacts, and role in debates about the futures of human health and healthcare in Canada and around the world.

Prerequisites: Registration in fourth year of an Honours Specialization module in FIMS, or permission of the instructor. Note: Enrolment is based on a ballot system which is submitted prior to course registration.
