Quantitative aspects of survey design: sampling methods and design of questionnaires. Experimental research: experimental and quasi-experimental designs. Quantitative content analysis. Review of descriptive statistical analysis techniques. Introduction to simple inferential statistical methods: hypothesis testing, tests of relationship between two variables, t-test, one-way ANOVA, factorial ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. A survey of advanced statistical methods: factor analysis, principal component analysis, clustering, multidimensional scaling, log-linear analysis, logistic regression, ordinal regression, discriminant analysis, path analysis, and social network analysis. (Recommended for Preparation: 9004 'Research Methods and Statistics' or equivalent) IBM SPSS Software will be used for analyzing data.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
1) Design an appropriate quantitative survey for a library and information science research (Program-level learning outcomes 3,4).
2) Design a valid experiment for a library and information science research (Program-level learning outcomes 3,4).
3) Critically evaluate the use of basic quantitative methods in the library and information science literature (Program-level learning outcome 6).
4) Apply the quantitative techniques learned in the course to library and information science research (Program-level learning outcome 3).
5) Use appropriate statistical software to analyse library and information science research data (Program-level learning outcome 3).
6) Communicate the results of data analysis to a variety of audiences including academic, professional, and public (Program-level learning outcome 5).
