Internship & Capstone Project

Student at computer Internship

In the final term of the program, you will go on a work placement. This real-world phase of the program will give you the opportunity to gain sustained practical experience applying what you have learned in a journalistic or communications setting. While on the placement, there will be an instructor guiding you, and helping you reflect on your professional experience. Because the instruction happens online, your placement could be anywhere in Canada, or indeed, in the world. Please see the list below for some examples of where past students have interned over the last two years.

Along with your placement, you will have the opportunity to put everything that you've learned in the classroom, on the job and online into practice during a final capstone project. This is your opportunity to take chances, be experimental, and innovative. Some possibilities to consider could include -- but are certainly not limited to -- producing an interactive piece, or maybe a detailed plan for a longer story submission like a documentary, or feature. See our showcase website, Western University Report, for some examples.
