MS 9275 (Winter 2019)   Political Economy of Communication

Course Description
This course offers an advanced analysis of the role played by communication in the international and transnational political economy.  Its focus will be on forces, processes, mediations and conceptual capacities related to them.  More specifically, Marxist and non-Marxist approaches will be examined from which a selection of key concepts (such as forces/relations of production, time/space, and information/knowledge dialectics) will be addressed.  Finally, the usefulness of these concepts in the task of understanding developments in the contemporary global political economy will be assessed.
