Teaching
My teaching focuses on how we understand the effects of technology on society. In LIS 731: "Internet Theory and Empirical Research", I critically assess current theory about the Internet and its impact on society. The course brings together studies and approaches from North America, Europe, and Asia to examine the way in which the Internet competes with and complements everyday life. In MIT 209: "Culture and Communities in Cyberspace" explores the theories of computer-mediated communication. The course looks at more recent approaches to understand how interaction in real-world environments compare to computer-mediated environments. The course investigates a wide range of online communities and their cultures, including work, youth, the elderly, and interest-based.

Research
My research investigates the uses of technology and the effects of technology on society. I have investigated the uses of the Internet by Canadians and Americans and how patterns of usage affects social capital. I also conducted two case studies to see how people use new technologies in the work place to exchange information. I am currently working on two projects.
