Teaching
Over the past few years, I have taught a number of courses that explore the theory and practice of information organization and retrieval. At the undergraduate level, I teach MIT 026, which is an introduction to the universe of print and electronic information sources. In the graduate program in Library and Information Science, I currently teach courses on the organization of information, the theory and practice of descriptive cataloguing, and classification and indexing.
Research Interests
My research currently focuses on information resource description, with a special emphasis on the description, classification and access of electronic resources using traditional and non-traditional methods. Current grant-funded research projects are studying the role of semantic markup in the creation of electronic versions of primary texts in the humanities, and the relevance of queer theory to the creation of classification schemes for information resources of interest to gay and lesbian communities.
