caroline
knox
After realizing that rodent brain-surgery was not her calling,
Caroline turned to her second love: writing. Growing up, CBC
radio played a prominent role in Caroline's life. She counts
Bill Richardson, Shelagh Rogers and Arthur Black among her
dearest friends. Caroline is passionate about science and
critical thinking. She recites the "To be or not to be"
soliloquy in her head whenever she feels nervous. She also
loves to travel and has been all over North America, Europe
and Southern Africa. Caroline can't imagine a better job than
gallivanting around the world collecting people's stories.
Hopefully, radio will give her the opportunity to do just
that.

Julia
came into journalism equipped with an English degree and a
passion for writing. But when she sat down in front of the
microphone, a voice comparable to Kathleen Turner's trailed
out. Pressured by her peers to explore the potential of her
booming voice, Julia is giving radio a shot. For Julia, radio
was the only one of the three rotations that was more fun
than work. With its crazy hours and fast-paced environment,
radio is a pleasant interruption from the structured lifestyle
Julia aspired to before beginning the program.

John comes
to London, Ontario, via Vancouver, Edmonton, and Ottawa, with
brief sojourns along the way, including several happy months
in sunny Southeast Asia. His passion for running has taken
him across the country and to Japan. He was recently seen
jumping half-naked into the icy Pacific after completing the
FatAss 50k in Vancouver on New Year's Day. John's chronic
radio habit has led his neighbours to rename him 'CBC' and
one day, he would like to fulfill his dream of working at
said corporation.

James
has a unique ability to absorb knowledge about the people
and places that surround him. He's been captivated by the
journalistic media since first discovering CBC Radio in the
early 90's. Listening to Peter Gzowski turned James onto the
idea that he could channel his broad interests into a useful
career through journalism. While his first love of radio has
won out in the short term, James is fresh off a television
internship at The NewPL. And after spending the last five
years turning the CHRW 94.9 FM newsroom on its edge, James
is looking forward to taking on his next challenge.

trina
melatti
Sitting
in her car in the dark during the 2003 summer blackout, Trina
was convinced radio would definitely need a bit more exploring.
She began the program with her heart set on print but when
the lights went out that fateful afternoon there was no going
back! Trina decided to do her internship at CFPL AM980 and
also got a chance to work with Energy 103, The Hawk and FM96.
After finishing her internship, Trina was certain she'd never
want to have a job that felt like work again. Radio gives
her the opportunity to write as well as do some on air work
that makes her feel like a star!

Originally
from Victoria, B.C., Teviah discovered his passion for storytelling
while traveling around Mexico, where he recorded legends as
told by the locals he met along the way. After three years
as an ESL teacher in San Luis Potosi, he returned to Canada
to study journalism at the University of Western Ontario.
Having worked at the London Free Press as an intern, Teviah
decided to hone his journalistic skills by specializing in
radio with aspirations to work as a reporter at the CBC. Fluent
in Spanish, he hopes to find himself filing reports from Latin
America and here in Canada, covering stories from the nation's
growing immigrant community.

Kyle never
intended to be a journalist. He came to Western with a desire
to be an entertainment writer, but the exciting and fast-paced
world of the newsroom hooked him and hasn't let go. He's been
a radio junkie ever since he co-hosted a college radio talk
show in 2002. He interned at CJCS, a small radio station in
his hometown of Stratford. Despite his small-town roots, Kyle
wants to travel the world - and meet new and exciting people.
And although he now loves the newsroom, he would still love
to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Roger Ebert, and become
a film critic.

With her
eyes set on the stars, Kasia Sarnecki came to Western to pursue
her dream of broadcasting. Her most recent experience in radio
was in New York City at Z100 (WHTZ) where exposure to the
bright lights of the city and fast pace of the station confirmed
her love for radio. Though her interests lie in commercial
radio, Kasia is interested in pursuing more comprehensive
journalism. When Kasia's not working on her radio career she
is all about enjoying life and spending time with those close
to her.

Heidi
grew up among the black rocks, mines, and numerous Tim Horton's
restaurants of Sudbury, Ontario. A lifelong love of reading,
writing and editing led her to study English at Laurentian
University and journalism at Western. Her mother says she
began asking questions almost as soon as she learned to talk.
This love of the interrogative was put to the ultimate test
during her internship at CBC Radio in Sudbury. When not questioning
others, Heidi enjoys cooking, reading, outdoor sports and
laughing with her friends in the radio room.

j

J
is a serious guy. He deals with issues that are as serious
as they come. An example? On his CBC internship he settled
the age-old question: Could the Pope take on Batman? He reads
more comicbooks and novels than newspapers, but not because
he doesn't care about the world around him. He's just fascinated
with all the forms stories take. Non-existent videotapes made
into books, graphic novels done as movies and galactic hitchhiking
on the radio are only a few of J's favourite things. Plus
there's that whole journalism thing. Seriously.
