The University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) and Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) are proud to announce a new Joint Graduate Program in Health Information Science (HIS), including a Master of Health Information Science (MHIS) program and a PhD program in Health Information Science.
The program will provide students with fundamental knowledge in health and health care, including public health, health policy, and clinical health care, combined with expertise in knowledge organization and management, knowledge translation, patient and professional information seeking behaviour, and information ethics and policy. Students will complete their course work through graduate seminars and courses offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences in its Health and Rehabilitation Sciences graduate program, and by the Faculty of Information and Media Studies in its professional MLIS and Journalism programs, as well as its master's and PhD programs in LIS and Media Studies. In addition, established linkages with other Western Faculties will ensure that students can access elective courses to build research and content expertise suited to their future goals, including health and medical informatics, legal and business aspects of health systems, clinical medicine and research, and health psychology and sociology. The Master of Health Information Science program includes both thesis and course based options. The PhD requires course work, comprehensive exams and a dissertation.
