TEACHING:

My teaching examines the interaction between communication and culture through applied media arts production and cultural, media, and information theory. I'm lucky to teach two introductory courses here at FIMS:

  • MIT 1020: Media Studies is a first-year core course for students interested in the Media, Information, and Technoculture undergraduate stream.
  • MIT 2152: Social Movements and Media is an introduction to the Media in the Public Interest (MPI) stream for undergraduates.

I also teach upper-division courses that work across our strengths here at FIMS:

  • The Politics and Representation of Food
  • Documentary Media
  •  Media and Environmental Justice
  •  The Theory and Practice of Making, which in 2019 inaugurated the opening of our new undergraduate makerspace.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

I examine the interaction between communication and culture through: 1) media arts production; 2) cultural, media, and information theory; and 3) techno-cultural studies.

PROJECTS:

As of late

I'm collecting interviews about the use of online jail 'webcams,' which transmit live images from inside detention centres to the general public.

I'm working with students to create our new makerspace--a hands-on environment that allows us to critique by creating and collaborating.

I work for UWOFA--the faculty association--on the Communications Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Board.

I am excited to bring the London chapter of Cinema Politica to FIMS beginning in 2019. I'm looking forward to partnering with the campus and London communities to host screenings and discussions around issues relating to community, social justice, and independent arts. https://www.cinemapolitica.org/about-cinema-politica

I'm also proudly involved with the Forest City Film Festival, working with both the youth and documentary short programs https://www.forestcityfilmfest.ca
