Benefits of Student Membership
So, you may be interested but you want to know: "what do I get for my annual US $40 student membership fee?". Good question! Check out these reasons:
- Networking:
"It's not what you know but who you know": well, there's some truth to this expression. Get the inside track on many different aspects of special librarianship and those jobs that no one on the outside hears about.
- Edge on the Resume:
Your membership shows a potential employer that you are interested in the profession and up on the issues. You never know, a fellow SLA member might be the one interviewing you!
- Saving the Bucks:
Let's face it: you'll probably belong to several professional organizations during your career. The student membership is less than half the full membership fee. You might as well save money while you can!
- Broaden Your Horizons:
As much as they can teach you in library school, you just can't know it all. Learn what's new to you out there and find your niche!
- Members Only:
Exclusive access to information on the SLA main page, information portals and job notifications.
- Travel to Meet and Greets:
$30 000 US in scholarships so you too can schmooze with fellow SLA members.
- Professional Literature to Your Door:
a subscription to Information Outlook, SLA's monthly magazine.
