Manager, Digital Library Services and Collections - Mississauga Library System

MANDATE:

A champion of innovation and customer service excellence, the Manager, Digital Library Services and Collections brings at least seven years of professional Library management experience.  As a strategic thinker and accomplished project manager, this role requires leadership of both unionized and non-unionized employees, that will contribute to one of the largest public Library systems in Canada with over 300,000 registered users and 18 locations.  The new Manager will be responsible for leading the strategic development of the Library’s digital presence and foster a culture of innovation throughout the Library. The new Manager will assist in achieving the Library Board’s goals and support the recommendations from the Library’s most recent Masterplan - Future Directions 2014.  With well-developed leadership capabilities, the new Manager will also increase operational efficiencies and accountabilities.

KEY PRIORITIES:

This role requires thought leadership for innovation and digital resource development. This role will also oversee budget control and procurement functions for the Library’s materials budget. The development and management of performance metrics, will drive continuous improvement and support organizational decision-making.

Short Term Priorities

·       Strategically manage Digital Library Services & Collections, establishing short term plans/objectives;
·       Develop and manage metrics to drive continuous improvement and support organizational decision-making;
·       Oversee budget control and procurement functions for the Collections budget ($3.2 million);
·       Provide a protocol for digital library services customer support;
·       Oversee the Library’s Integrated Catalogue System in conjunction with the City’s IT Division;
·       Oversee a team to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies for Library initiatives in conjunction with the City’s Communication Division.

Long Term Priorities

·       Support the Library’s vision and develop a library technology strategy;
·       Develop a long term strategic plan for collection development to reflect the changing landscape of increasing digital content, and continued development of library’s web presence;
·       Develop tactics to foster a culture of innovation across the Library system to create an environment that embraces change;
·       Develop partnerships with stakeholders to deliver services;
·       Ensure adherence to applicable legislation, policies, procedures, rules and regulations and collective agreement by taking appropriate measures;
·       Develop a leadership succession plan;
·       Continue to improve communication and increase employee engagement.

REPORTING TO:

Reporting to the Director, Library Services the new Manager will sit on the Library Leadership Team and provide strategic leadership for developing and expanding the Library’s Digital presence and fostering a culture of innovation for the Division.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualifications

·       A recognized Library Science or Information Studies degree, MLIS preferred;
·       Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years relevant work experience as a professional Librarian;
·       Experience at a Senior Administrative Level in a Public Library setting;
·       A demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies;
·       A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of collection management, reference services and the impact of public libraries on community development;
·       Strong leadership skills, team decision making and planning skills complemented by an innovative and results-oriented approach;
·       Demonstrated business acumen with respect to managing human, financial and fixed assets and taking accountability for results;
·       Possess strong organization and communication skills to liaise with the public, elected officials and outside agencies;
·       Ability to demonstrate superior customer service skills and have proven success at developing, fostering and maintaining a healthy workplace culture;
·       Ability to prepare Corporate Reports and make presentations to Council, at public meetings and special events;

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time role with a target compensation of approx. $110,000 p.a. + pension plan and comprehensive benefits
