The University of Alberta Libraries (UAL), with a long tradition of service excellence to the University and its communities, seeks a dynamic professional to lead our Collection Strategies Unit (CSU).  Bringing strength in broad knowledge of collections issues, the successful candidate will lead and facilitate the work of an integrated, responsive team, and be responsible for the strategic development, management, and evaluation of the UAL’s electronic and print collections across all subject areas. The Collection Strategies Coordinator ensures responsive and effective delivery of services, including leading the planning and prioritization of work across the unit, project oversight, staff and team supervision. They oversee the work of a team of 12 staff, and directly supervise a team of four collection strategies librarians and two support staff who manage monograph and subscription acquisition teams. The Collection Strategies Coordinator acts as the lead negotiator with vendors and publishers, and leads UAL processes for selection of preferred suppliers. They ensure timely communication and consultation with other areas of the UAL, including public service units and Bibliographic Services, on issues relating to collections and acquisitions. They lead the CSU’s overall assessment and evaluation activities, ensuring a systematic approach is taken and that collections decisions are based on evidence.

The Collection Strategies Unit (CSU) is a newly formed unit within the University of Alberta Libraries, responsible for acquisition and management of the Libraries’ collections across all subject areas. Key goals of the CSU are to help identify and implement strategies that effectively support collection development that is relevant to the teaching and research needs of the University of Alberta community; to build a single collection of information resources that are discoverable and accessible in a timely manner; and, to build a collection that is based on the analysis of a variety of forms of evidence that allow the University of Alberta Libraries to better respond to user-driven needs.

Qualifications include:

•    A Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent
•    Demonstrated experience and leadership within the field of collection development and management in an academic library setting
•    Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative approaches to the assessment of academic library collections
•    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and excellent communication skills

Applicants must also possess a strong service orientation, superior information management skills, a commitment to cooperative and innovative solutions, and an ability to be flexible to changing circumstances. Candidates will possess a high level of competence with electronic information sources and new technologies, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, leadership qualities, and evidence of ongoing professional development and involvement. Successful candidates will also be interested in and seek opportunities for conducting research and contributing to the profession.

This is a tenure-track position at the Librarian II level.  Effective July 1, 2017, the salary range will be $86,744 - $144,452.
