The Organization:

Regina Public Library (RPL) is a community gathering place where the joy of reading, discovery and lifelong learning is respected and encouraged. The programs, services and supports we provide help to build a strong community: one that values knowledge and understanding, and respects and upholds diversity.

The library of today offers a positive, dynamic meeting place in which people can interact and share ideas. It’s about learning, seeking knowledge and exchanging information. We assess priorities and provide resources to support the things deemed most important by our customers and our citizens.

RPL employs over 200 staff who provide high quality library services to residents of, and visitors to, Regina at nine locations throughout the city. So far in 2021, we have over 100,000 active library cards. Annual circulation is typically over 2 million.

In addition to a collection that includes books, films and music in traditional and digital media, our customers have access to hundreds of programs, art exhibitions, film screenings and cultural events each year. RPL’s service offerings continue to grow, and have recently expanded to include 3D scanning, printing and digitization services, laptop lending, a whisper room, new volunteer opportunities, and more.

The Opportunity:

As part of a dynamic team reporting to the Executive Director, Branch Libraries, the Branch Manager is responsible for developing and delivering a full range of professional library services in one or more branches. The Branch Manager shapes the nature and quality of the customer experience through the selection, development, and mentoring of the librarians, supervisors, and branch employees. They exercise professional judgment to ensure a customer-centered service in branch operations, and by using evidence-based assessment in the design, implementation, and evaluation of service improvements.

As Branch Manager, you will:

• Create a welcoming, customer-centered experience that is responsive to the community.
• Develop, execute, and assess effective strategies to ensure the branch meets the organization’s strategic goals and objectives by allocating resources responsibly, effectively, and efficiently.
• Be attuned to changing environments and continuously monitor, analyze, and adjust.
• Coordinate and collaborate with fellow RPL managers to seek additional budgeted resources for projects and branch initiatives.
• Provide effective management and supervision of employees, including librarians and supervisors: train, develop, coach, and mentor staff for engagement and success.
• Foster a culture of respect and cooperation, continuous improvement, and customer- centered service; have critical conversations to tackle challenges.
• Connect by leading or joining teams to plan and implement projects impacting the broader RPL system. Initiate proposals and recommendations regarding the adoption of new practices, standards, and service innovation across Regina Public Library.
• Connect by developing relationships and maintaining communications with the local community and its various agencies and interest groups to identify the collections, programs, services, and community engagement opportunities to meet local needs.
• Discover and learn by embracing ongoing professional development to foster a broad and in-depth knowledge of current library practices, trends, standards, public services, and related professional issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

As an outstanding candidate, you have:

• An ALA accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Studies.
• A minimum three years professional library experience with increased responsibilities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current technology, trends and issues related to public library services.
• Knowledge of the principles of human resource management in a unionized environment and demonstrated ability to motivate and lead staff.
• Demonstrated ability to take on responsibility, take initiative, exercise independent judgment, and discretion.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and set priorities for yourself and others.

COMPENSATION

RPL has an inclusive and innovative work environment which offers a competitive salary ($81,111 to $115,852 per annum) and a generous benefits package, including 100% employer paid group benefits and five weeks annual vacation. Learning is one of RPL’s values and this is demonstrated through significant support for professional development in the amount of $4,000 per year.
