FIMS Computing Services provides extensive resources to support the Faculty’s commitment to teach and conduct research in the areas of information and media technology.
Three labs with forty IBM-PC Pentium microcomputers are available for graduate student use 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, except for scheduled maintenance periods. These general purpose workstations are linked to a Local Area Network (LAN), the Internet, scanners, and a course laser printer (available at a low per-page cost). The labs are equipped with a variety of Windows-based software resources ranging from word processing, spreadsheet and database management packages to fully integrated multimedia applications. Access to many major information retrieval tools is available.
It is recommended, but not required, that students own personal computers. Students with Macintosh computers may undergo some inconvenience due to incompatibility but often work-arounds are possible and support is available at other UWO agencies.
