MTP students: Are you considering upgrading your Bachelor of Arts degree (Three Year) to an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree (Four Year)?
Upgrading is an individual assessment, based on the courses you have completed during your four years in the MTP program. Students must complete all outstanding degree requirements in addition to the requirements of the Honors Specialization module in MIT. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee entrance to the Honors Bachelor degree. The requirements to upgrade will include no fewer than 5.0 senior courses (2000-4999) and must be completed through The University of Western Ontario.
Within your MTP program, you will have completed the following senior level MIT courses:
Year 1: Writing 2121F/G = 0.5 course
Year 2: MIT 2000F/G, MIT 2100F/G = 1.0 course
Year 3: MIT 2200F/G, MIT 2500A/B, plus 2.0 MIT courses at the 2000-level or above = 3.0 courses
Year 4: 1.0 MIT course at the 2000-level or above = 1.0 course
If you have followed the prescribed requirements above, you have completed 5.5 out of 9.0 courses required for the Honors Specialization module.
To upgrade to the Honors Specialization module, you must complete a minimum of 5.0 senior courses, including the following:
A) 2.0 MIT courses at the 2000-level or above
B) 1.5 courses: MIT 3000A/B, 3100F/G and a 4000-level seminar course
C) 1.5 options at the 2000-level or above.
Breadth Requirements for Graduation
To meet the graduation requirements for the Honors Bachelor degree, students must complete at least 1.0 course from each of Categories A, B, and C (See Breadth Requirements). Students may complete this requirement within their 1.5 options at the 2000-level or above (see category C above).
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with an Honors Bachelor degree, students must meet the University regulations for the degree.

MTP students: Are you thinking about upgrading your 3-year Bachelor of Arts degree to Honors?
Upgrading is an individual assessment, based on the courses you have completed during your four years in the MTP program. To determine how many courses you require to upgrade, use the following guide below:
- Year 2: Number of MIT courses completed at the 200 level or higher _____
- Year 3: Number of MIT courses completed at the 200 level or higher _____
- Year 4: Number of MIT courses completed at the 200 level or higher _____
A + B + C = _____
You have completed (A+B+C) out of 9.0 courses required for the Honors Specialization module.
As part of the remaining courses you must complete MIT 301a/b, 302F/G and a 400-level seminar course.
In addition, you’ll need 2.0 options at the 200 level or higher.
An Example:
Over four years in MTP, a student has completed:
- Year 2: 1.0 MIT course at the 200 level or higher
- Year 3: 4.0 MIT courses at the 200 level or higher
- Year 4: 1.0 MIT course at the 200 level or higher
The student has completed 6.0 / 9.0 courses for the Honors Specialization module.
To upgrade, the student requires 3.0 additional MIT courses (at the 200 level or higher) and 2.0 options (at the 200 level or higher) to fulfill the requirements for the upgraded degree (5.0 courses in total). The 3.0 MIT courses must include MIT 301a/b, 302F/G and a 400-level seminar course.
And, if the student needed to fulfill his/her breadth requirement (hadn't taken a full course in Science, for example) he/she would need to take something at the 100 level or higher rather than a first-year course.
