NOT MEETING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS COULD RESULT IN FAILURE.

  • The internship will be treated as seriously as a classroom course and a professional experience.
  • There is no remuneration for the internship.
  • Transportation is the intern’s responsibility.
  • Attendance at an orientation meeting (group or individual) with the Internship Coordinator (IC) is mandatory.
  • An academic course failure prior to the start of an internship can result in withdrawal of approval.
  • An internship terminated:
    a) in the first 10 hours will be deleted from the academic transcript
    b) between 10 and 35 hours will show as WD (withdrawn) on the transcript
    c) after 35 hours will show as an F (failure) on the transcript
    N.B. The employer must sign and return the time sheet to verify the number of hours worked.
  • Professional behaviour (e.g., punctuality, attendance, positive attitude) must be shown.
  • A minimum of 140 hours will be completed as noted on the Work/Placement Agreement form. Any major changes to the proposed work schedule will be reported to IC for approval.
  • Two weeks’ written notice must be given to the IC and the employer before leaving a placement prior to the end date agreed upon with the employer.
  • All concerns will be brought to the attention of IC first who will consult with the appropriate supervisor (employer, academic counsellor, associate dean).
  • The student reports to ______________________ and will adhere to the employer’s chain of command.
  • The mid-term internship progress report [2 single-spaced pages] should: a) identify the “employer” and give a brief outline of the organization and the intern’s activities; and, b) should make some preliminary connections between the organization and/or tasks undertaken on site and theoretical work in the MIT program. It should incorporate ideas from at least four MIT courses.

  • The final report [5-6 single-spaced pages] should develop the same connections formally and fully. For example, you might present four or five themes that were prompted by your placement. Cite specific readings to demonstrate how one or more of your MIT courses exemplified each of these themes.

    To be considered for a grade of Pass with Distinction, your report should consist of a longer paper (18-20, double-spaced pages plus references) which shows evidence of independent background research through the use of resources (e.g., journal articles, books) beyond those included on MIT required course syllabi. Further, in accordance with the “Guidelines to the MIT Grade Range,” the final report will show originality, demonstrate a high degree of critical analysis and high quality writing.
