Goal 1: To provide graduate level education in the discipline of LIS, as consistent with the Mission Statement of the Faculty. In relation to Goal 1, the objectives of the MLIS program are:
Objective 1: to foster critical inquiry and creativity in all aspects of the program;
Objective 2: to deliver a flexible and responsive program, maximizing the student's opportunity for professional development, leadership and growth through a variety of work and study options;
Objective 3: to maintain a high level of current technological expertise in program delivery.
Goal 2: To graduate information professionals and researchers who engage in critical and independent thinking, display creativity, are reflexive about professional practice, and are committed to both theory and practice in LIS. In relation to Goal 2, the objective of the MLIS program is:
Objective 1: to educate MLIS graduates who can:
(a) demonstrate an awareness of professional values and standards;
(b) respond to change in a spirit of intellectual inquiry;
(c) draw valid conclusions based upon sound analysis of reliable data;
(d) engage in a critical analysis of principles and techniques of research in LIS;
(e) analyse major problems of the discipline and profession in a spirit of creativity and critical inquiry;
(f) demonstrate a critical awareness of contemporary management principles
(g) identify, select, acquire, organize, describe and provide access to recorded information in a variety of formats;
(h) identify needs of particular user groups and develop collections and services to meet these needs;
(i) employ appropriate technologies in library and information applications;
(j) communicate and work cooperatively and effectively with others, including users, colleagues, employers and members of the community.
Goal 3: To forge strategic partnerships (on and off campus) in research, program delivery and service to the profession. In relation to Goal 3, the objectives of the MLIS program are:
Objective 1: to foster opportunities for students in our program to participate in relevant areas of study in other units on campus or in the wider community, and vice versa;
Objective 2: to strengthen and develop ongoing relationships with the profession and employers through ventures such as the Co-operative (Work/Study) Program
